Victorian furniture encompasses styles produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, characterised by a revival of historicism, intricate ornamentation, and the use of rich timbers such as walnut and mahogany.

Cabinetmakers during this period predominantly utilised dense hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, and oak, frequently incorporating decorative veneers such as burr walnut for enhanced visual texture on tabletops.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery techniques, hand-carved details, natural timber ageing, and hand-applied finishes such as shellac polish rather than modern synthetic lacquers.

Positioning an antique wooden table alongside modern upholstery creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship and rich grain of the historical piece.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood surface.
