The Arts and Crafts movement prioritised traditional craftsmanship, simple forms, and the natural grain of materials like oak, reacting against industrial mass production.

Makers predominantly used solid English oak, often incorporating traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints without relying on metal fasteners.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-planed surfaces, natural medullary rays in the oak timber, traditional pegged joinery, and sometimes maker stamps or labels.

Pairing the natural warmth of vintage timber with minimalist contemporary seating or sleek lighting creates a balanced contrast that highlights the historic grain.

Maintain the wood by applying natural beeswax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and using protective mats against moisture and heat.
