FAQs

Tray tables gained popularity during the Victorian era, evolving from portable serving trays mounted on folding or fixed stands to serve tea and host guests in formal drawing rooms.

These tables were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, frequently featuring intricate wood marquetry, satinwood stringing, and cast brass gallery rails.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails or joinery marks, natural patination on the brass hardware, and the specific types of veneer and glues used.

Pair the warm timber tones with minimalist upholstery and neutral walls to allow the historic craftsmanship to serve as a focal point in a contemporary living space.

Maintain the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the wood.
