Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Nineteenth century kitchen tables and workbenches were utilitarian items crafted for domestic and commercial food preparation. Often constructed from sturdy local timbers like pine, these tables frequently received coats of protective paint, which was updated or stripped over generations of household use.

These tables were typically built using solid softwood timbers such as pine, featuring mortise and tenon joinery for stability under heavy daily tasks. Work surfaces were often left unsealed or scrubbed bare for hygiene, while bases and drawers received durable lead or oil-based paint finishes.

Authentic nineteenth century pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, square-headed or handmade iron nails, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Patination, including centuries of wear to both the paint layers and the wooden top, serves as a primary indicator of age.

Positioning a utilitarian wooden table in a contemporary setting creates warmth through textural contrast against sleek modern finishes. It functions well as a central island, a serving surface, or a freestanding console within an open-plan kitchen or dining space.

Maintain painted surfaces by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaning agents that degrade historic finishes. Nourish exposed wooden tabletops periodically with natural beeswax or food-safe oils to prevent drying and splitting.
