Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, neoclassical motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, and a heavy reliance on fine dark timbers like mahogany.

These tables were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring secondary timbers like pine or oak for interior framing, and occasionally incorporating brass fittings and baize linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-accurate joinery, hand-turned pedestals, traditional French polish finishes, and makers stamps or paper labels where workshops like Miles & Edwards marked their output.

Pair the rich dark timber with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary seating to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern living spaces.

Keep wooden surfaces away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping or fading, and maintain the finish by occasionally applying microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
