Regency style furniture, prominent in the early 19th century, drew heavily from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by bold architectural forms and rich timbers.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods like mahogany, often featuring flame mahogany veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints, and turned pedestal bases supported by substantial plinths.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, secondary woods in the internal framing, hand-forged fixings, polish patination, and traditional joinery methods consistent with early 19th-century craftsmanship.

Such a versatile piece functions effectively placed against a wall as a console with a lamp or mirror above, or opened out in a dining space or living room for entertaining.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally applying a natural beeswax to nourish the finish.
