Staffordshire figures are ceramic earthenware sculptures produced in the Staffordshire potteries of England during the 19th century, typically designed as flatback ornaments for display on mantelpieces.

These figures are traditionally made from earthenware clay, cast in moulds, and hand-painted with underglaze colours and enamels before being fired in a kiln.

Authentic pieces generally feature crazing in the glaze, hollow flat backs, vent holes for firing, hand-painted details with minor inconsistencies, and appropriate wear consistent with nineteenth-century production.

These ceramic pieces can be displayed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables to introduce historical character and traditional colour into a contemporary space.

Clean figures gently with a soft, dry brush or a slightly damp cloth without harsh chemicals, and avoid placing them in direct sunlight or areas of high humidity.
