Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Root wood furniture utilises the gnarled underground or lower trunk sections of trees, often sculpted into functional forms like tables and stools. This tradition gained popularity during the 19th century and mid-century periods, celebrating natural forms and organic asymmetry.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as teak, burl, or cedar roots. Artisans clean, cure, and hand-carve the natural root systems, often leveling the top surface to create a functional platform while preserving the raw contours below.

Authentic vintage pieces exhibit genuine weathering, deep patina, and continuous grain from the root base up to the tabletop. Examination of the timber density, hand-finished surfaces, and natural imperfections helps distinguish period items from modern reproductions.

These organic forms provide textural contrast in minimalist or modern spaces. They function effectively as side tables next to neutral sofas or as sculptural plant stands, allowing the natural grain to anchor the rooms design scheme.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain. Keep the items away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent drying and splitting of the wood.
