Staffordshire figures were mass-produced in the English potteries during the 19th century, particularly flourishing during the Victorian era, as affordable chimney ornaments for working and middle-class homes.

These figures were typically made from earthenware or porcelain, cast in moulds, hand-painted with ceramic colours, and often highlighted with gilt details before being kiln-fired.

Authentic pieces often exhibit crazing in the glaze, hollow undersides with vent holes, hand-painted brushwork rather than transfer printing, and wear consistent with age.

They can be displayed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or sideboards to introduce traditional craftsmanship, historical character, and a pop of colour to contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush and avoid using water or chemical cleaners, especially on pieces with hand-painted enamels or delicate gilt accents which can easily flake.
