Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian set of souvenir whitewood Tunbridge Ware stacking pots brings traditional English country house character to any mantelpiece. This decorative boxes group includes seven graduated cylindrical pieces made of light brown timber with a smooth turned finish and visible age wear. The largest pot displays a printed landscape vignette of the Brighton Pavilion on its lid, while the smaller lids show concentric painted rings in black and red tones. Finely turned mouldings allow each pot to slip precisely into the next size up in nested arrangement. The largest vessel measures 5.5 cm high by 6 cm wide, with the others scaling down proportionally to the smallest container at the end of the line. Display this matched nest together on a living room mantel or side table to highlight the intricate turned wooden details and historical souvenir charm.

FAQs

Whitewood Tunbridge Ware refers to turned timber souvenir items produced predominantly in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Before tessellated mosaic woodwork became dominant, artisans crafted objects from pale turned woods, decorating them with hand-painted concentric rings or printed topographical views of local landmarks.

These items were crafted from light-coloured native hardwoods such as sycamore, beech, or lime, which provided a smooth surface for turning. Decorative elements were added using ink, varnish, coloured paints, or copperplate prints adhered directly to the wood surface before clear varnishing.

Authentic pieces feature faint lathe marks from hand-turning, original dark varnish showing natural craquelure, and period printed illustrations or painted concentric rings. Sets of nesting or stacking pots display subtle variations in diameter consistent with historical hand craftsmanship.

Graduated nesting or stacking pots can be arranged in a linear sequence along a mantelpiece, open shelf, or console table to highlight their varying proportions. Placing them alongside glass or metallic decorative items provides a balanced contrast of textures.

Keep whitewood objects away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent timber warping or varnish cracking. Clean gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth without applying water, liquid polishes, or chemical cleaners.
