FAQs

Derby porcelain refers to ceramic items produced in Derby, England, starting in the mid-18th century, renowned for fine craftsmanship, detailed hand-painting, and high-quality bone china bodies.

Traditional Derby pieces are typically crafted from soft-paste porcelain or bone china, finished with hand-applied mineral pigments and gilded with genuine gold leaf highlights.

Authenticity is usually verified through underglaze factory marks, hand-painted pattern numbers, the quality of the brushwork, and the specific composition of the porcelain body under magnification.

These pieces can be displayed on plate stands, mounted on walls as part of a gallery collection, or utilised as decorative catchalls on side tables and mantelpieces.

Antique porcelain should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding dishwashers, abrasive sponges, and prolonged immersion to protect the delicate glaze and gilding.
