FAQs

Fold-over tables gained immense popularity during the Georgian period to accommodate the rising fashion for card games such as whist and quadrille, featuring a hinged top that doubles the surface area when opened.

Master craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak for the frame and legs, frequently lining the interior playing surface with woven wool baize, felt, or sometimes leather.

Authenticity is determined by examining traditional joinery methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, the presence of period-correct hardware, timber shrinkage, and natural oxidisation patterns consistent with age.

Positioning the table against a wall in a living room or study in its closed position allows it to function as a side console, showcasing its decorative timber grain while remaining fully functional for occasional use.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and cleaning the baize surface gently with a soft brush.
