Here are three beautiful and exceptionally elegant silk embroideries set in gilt oval frames depicting garlands of flowers, created in the early 19th century and signed in the lower centre of one by Elizabeth Griffiths.
Whilst the other two are not signed, they all originated from the same collection, bear the same look stylistically, including the same colours and use of a blue and white ribbon motif, and are also from the same time period. With this in mind I''m confident that they are all by Elizabeth Griffith and so am keeping them as a collection of three.
The pictures are embroidered in pale pastel hues of pinks, blues creams and golds - roses twist around carnations, and harebells are entwined with celandines and convolvulus, all tied together with pretty blue and white ribbons.
The needlework is very fine and detailed, and the colours are still bright. They are in good condition, but of course show the signs of their age as might be expected, with some tiny holes, wri
...nkles and spots to the backing silk - but I hope the photographs show that they still display beautifully.
The largest measures 30cm by 26cm, the middle 29cm by 24cm and the smaller of the three measures 22cm by 16cm.
