FAQs

Charlotte Rhead was a prominent English ceramic designer known for her work with several potteries during the Art Deco period, particularly famous for reviving and perfecting the tubeline technique.

These pieces are crafted from earthenware clay using a traditional tubeline method, where liquid clay or slip is squeezed through a nozzle to outline intricate patterns before hand-painting and glazing.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted designer signatures or initials on the base alongside specific pottery backstamps, pattern names or numbers, and the characteristic raised slip lines of the tubelined decoration.

This piece can be styled as a focal point on a mantlepiece or sideboard, pairing its rich, warm palette with neutral backgrounds to highlight the intricate geometric and floral surface patterns.

To preserve the glaze and hand-painted details, clean the piece gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid immersion in water or exposure to direct, prolonged sunlight.
