Drabware is a type of stoneware or earthenware body characterised by its muted brownish-grey or putty colour, which gained immense popularity during the Regency and early Victorian periods, roughly between 1810 and 1850.

These pieces were typically crafted from refined stoneware or fine earthenware, often featuring hand-applied moulded reliefs and hand-gilded highlights on the rims and handles.

Authenticity is generally determined by examining the ceramic body, impressed factory marks on the base, the quality of the moulded leaf detailing, and the characteristic unglazed or glazed tonal variations typical of early nineteenth-century kilns.

It can be utilised as a focal point on a dining table or sideboard, either left empty to showcase its sculptural form or styled with seasonal fruit or decorative spheres.

Antique ceramics should be washed exclusively by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding dishwashers, harsh chemicals, and abrasive sponges to protect the delicate glaze and gilding.
