Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kashmiri papier-mache, known locally as Kari-kalamdani, developed in the region through Persian influences during the 15th century and expanded significantly under 19th-century export demand. The craft involves moulding paper pulp into objects and finishing them with intricate hand-painted floral and botanical motifs sealed under thick lacquer.

Craftsmen layered paper pulp and cloth over wooden forms, smoothing the surface with stones before applying a base coat of plaster. Artisans then used mineral pigments and real gold leaf to paint detailed pattern work, protecting the completed design with transparent varnish.

Authentic 19th-century examples feature dense, highly detailed floral, arabesque, or hazelnut motifs executed with fine precision and natural mineral pigments. They display fine surface crazing in the lacquer, light wear on edges, and a characteristic weight distinct from modern reproductions.

Grouping varied shapes along a bookshelf, console table, or sideboard creates an engaging vignette that adds historical texture. Their detailed pattern work pairs effectively alongside dark timber furniture, brass accents, and neutral ceramic vessels.

Keep these items away from direct sunlight, excess moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent the lacquer from cracking or lifting. Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using liquid solvents, polishes, or water on the surface.
