We offer this rare antique Joseph Holdcroft majolica teapot modeled as a Chinese boy on a melon dating from around 1870. This very finely made earthenware teapot portrays a Chinese boy, his head forming the cover, climbing on a melon. The spout forms the stalk while the handle is modeled as a twig. The body of the teapot is painted in yellow, green and blue .
Marked Holdcroft to the base. Dated to the 19th century, c. 1870.
301 g
20 cm in length from handle to spout
14 cm in height from base to the top
10 cm in depth
Excellent antique condition, on the lid there is a small chip, which isn’t visible when closed. On the boy’s nose there is a grey dot, under the glaze, a factory defect. Otherwise wonderful antique condition, it is very difficult to find such a teapot in this good of a condition. Please carefully regard all photos.
