Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Meissen began producing realistic bird figures in the early eighteenth century under the direction of master sculptors like Johann Joachim Kandler. Inspired by royal menageries and scientific illustrations, these figures gained immense popularity across European courts and established a tradition of detailed ornithological ceramic modelling.

These figures were crafted using hard-paste porcelain, composed of kaolin and petuntse, which allowed for intricate detail and durability. The sculpted pieces were fired at high temperatures before being hand-painted using specialized enamel pigments and finished with a clear glaze.

Authentic pieces generally feature the factorys signature underglaze blue crossed swords mark on the underside. Look for impressed model numbers, incised painter marks, fine hand-painted details, and high-quality porcelain paste without rough seams or crude finishings.

A pair of decorative figures works well positioned symmetrically on a mantelpiece, floating shelf, or sideboard. They can also be integrated into a glass-front cabinet or paired with books and botanical prints to create a curated display.

Dust figures regularly using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent dirt buildup in intricate crevices. Avoid immersion in water or the use of harsh chemical detergents, which can damage delicate enamels or destabilize old professional restorations.
