A Very Large 19th Century Glass Dome on an Ebonised Base

19th century
Sold by Culvertons
Description

Very large round glass domes from the 19th Century, such as this fine example, are scarce. So, when we were offered three antique domes without their bases, including this rare oversized one, the decision to turn sympathetic antique mahogany bases for them, matching an original pattern, and ebonise them in a traditional manner was an easy one to make. Because of their fragile nature, we are not willing to package and deliver domes using high street couriers or postal services. However, we are more than happy to dispatch these items throughout England, Wales, and Scotland using trusted private couriers, or of course, you may collect them from our shop in Dorking, Surrey. The measurements listed below are for the dome itself. The base has a diameter of 43.5 cm, and the overall height including the base is 65

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
