Large 19th Century (possibly Earlier) Sandstone Wall Plaque Depicting A Sheep Suspended In A Ribbon

Centered on a shaped cartouche. Of possible local interest: Chipping Campden’s own coat of arms includes a sheep suspended in a ribbon showing the towns close connection to the wool trade.
 
Approximately 84cm high x 65cm wide x 38cm deep, and very heavy.
 
Condition: Some traces of old paint remain, with some losses to the stone around the nose and feet.
 
Notes: A sheep suspended in a ribbon, has served as a symbol of fine wool since the fifteenth century. By early medieval times, it was said: “half the wealth of England rides on the back of a sheep. Often referred to as the Golden fleece.
