First Period Worcester refers to porcelain produced at the Worcester factory in England from its establishment in 1751 until around 1783, known for pioneering early paste recipes and exceptional transfer-printing and hand-painting techniques.

These items were crafted using a soft-paste porcelain formula incorporating soapstone, which improved thermal shock resistance, followed by intricate hand-painting over white glaze with enamel colours and gilding.

Authenticity is identified through characteristic underglaze blue marks, painted crescent or square fretted marks, distinctive paste translucency, and the presence of fine kiln grit on the unglazed footrim.

Displaying antique porcelain within glass-fronted cabinets or on open shelving provides visual contrast, allowing the intricate patterns and rich colour palettes to complement modern minimalist decor.

Antique porcelain requires gentle hand washing in lukewarm water with mild detergent when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials, dishwashers, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to protect fragile enamels and gilding.
