19th Century Carved Cat In Boot Novelty Inkwell

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Harrington Antiques

An absolutely charming 19th century inkwell finely carved to depict a cat sat in a boot.

The inkwell is extremely well carved with wonderful attention to detail. The boot is realistically carved with care taken to include every detail, including the sole. The cat has a historic loss to an ear but this has patinated well with the rest of the piece. The cat has an endearing expression and rounded green glass eyes which seem to follow you wherever you go. The cat''s paws sit either side of the boot opening.

The top of the boot opens to reveal an inkwell interior. The small glass inkwell inside has numerous chips to the top commensurate with age and retains traces of ink.

A delightful and unusually detailed piece.
