This late Victorian dining table dates from the period around 1890 to 1900. Built from mahogany, it has a warm brown timber finish and a rectangular top with an extending mechanism that seats eight adults comfortably. The table stands on reeded turned legs with original castor feet and metal handles, and includes a working original winder. Visible details include a clean polished top surface, pronounced wood grain patterns, and robust structural joinery. Measuring 198 cm long, 111 cm wide, and 76 cm tall, the piece suits traditional and country house interiors. It provides a practical surface for formal dining rooms or spacious kitchen spaces, functioning as a primary dining hub for family meals and gatherings.

Late Victorian dining tables, produced towards the end of the nineteenth century, are characterised by solid hardwood construction, functional extending mechanisms, and prominent turned or reeded legs.

These tables were primarily built using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. Internal telescopic or winding mechanisms were constructed from iron or hardwood, with brass or steel castors attached to the base of the legs.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit hand-finished joinery, natural age-related patina, original brass or iron castors, and period-appropriate extension hardware such as hand-cranked steel screws or wooden slides.

A Victorian dining table can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist dining chairs, neutral floor coverings, and modern lighting fixtures to balance the rich wood tones.

To maintain the finish, wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth and periodically apply high-quality beeswax. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish bleaching.
