This Chinese porcelain wine ewer dates from the Kangxi period between 1644 and 1722 within the 17th Century. The piece takes the form of a Chinese Qing Dynasty pitch with a white glazed body hand-painted in cobalt blue pigment. Notable details include an elongated curved handle with a serrated detail along the back, a tall spout joined to the neck by a small strut, and a peach-shaped medallion enclosing floral scrollwork on the bulbous body. The neck features a collar decoration below a geometric rim pattern. The piece measures 17 cm high, 14.5 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. In a modern interior, this un-marked ewer suits placement on a sideboard top within an English Country House setting. Without a lid, the vessel stands ready for decorative display on a wooden surface where the blue and white glaze contrasts with traditional interiors.

A Kangxi period wine ewer is a porcelain vessel produced during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (16621722) in Qing Dynasty China. Designed primarily for serving liquids, these vessels were produced both for domestic consumption and for the European export market.

These vessels were hand-shaped from high-fired kaolin clay, painted with cobalt oxide directly onto the unfired body, covered with a transparent glaze, and fired at high temperatures. The cobalt develops a distinctive blue colour beneath the translucent clear glaze.

Authentic Kangxi porcelain typically exhibits clear violet-blue cobalt shades, a smooth translucent glaze, and refined clay preparation. Period markers often include double blue rings or reign marks on the base, alongside specific body forms like high arched handles.

A porcelain ewer serves as a focal accent when placed on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or bookshelf alongside modern ceramics or minimal artwork. Grouping the item with complementary blue and white ceramics creates a structured decorative arrangement.

Clean the porcelain surface gently using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive detergent applied with a soft cloth. Avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent stress fractures in the glaze or body.
