FAQs

Victorian furniture, spanning the 19th century during Queen Victorias reign, encompasses a wide range of revival styles influenced by industrial manufacturing capabilities and a fondness for heavy, dark woods and functional design adaptations.

Cabinetmakers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, frequently incorporating brass hardware, dovetail joinery, and secondary woods like pine for internal drawer construction.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, aged patina on the wood surface, natural timber shrinkage, and period-correct hardware such as brass drop handles and brass key escutcheons.

This versatile piece functions effectively as a compact writing desk, a hallway console with the leaves dropped, or an occasional table, bringing warmth, texture, and historical character to contemporary minimalist or traditional schemes.

Preserve the surface by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, cleaning only with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber without damaging the historic finish.
