Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique French sewing etui is a small, portable case fitted with specialised needlework instruments such as scissors, thimbles, stilettos, and needle cases. Popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, these compact sets were designed for personal use and crafted from materials like decorated leather, bone, or tortoiseshell.

The exterior cases were commonly made of tooled leather, papier-mache, or mother-of-pearl lined with silk or velvet. The interior tools were typically forged from steel, gilt brass, silver, or gold, depending on the status of the owner.

Authentic pieces feature precision-moulded interiors tailored to fit specific tools, fine gilding on brass elements, period hallmarks on precious metals, and natural signs of age such as slight patina or leather wear rather than modern artificial distressing.

Displayed open on a bookshelf, desk, or inside a glass cloche, an etui serves as an intriguing tactile accent piece that adds historic character to study areas, dressing tables, or cabinet displays.

Keep the set in a dry, climate-controlled environment to prevent moisture from causing rust on steel blades or foxing on silk linings. Dust the metal elements using a soft microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical polishes on gilt surfaces.
