FAQs

Wooden gingerbread and biscuit moulds date back centuries in Europe, where they were carved by hand to press intricate designs into spiced dough before baking for festivals, celebrations, and trade.

These moulds were typically carved from dense, tight-grained hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, pear, or beech, which could hold fine detail and withstand repeated pressing without splintering.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved tool marks, natural timber shrinkage, deep patination from age and oils, and wear consistent with historical domestic use rather than modern mechanical routing.

These carved wooden pieces can be mounted on a wall as sculptural folk art or displayed flat on a bookshelf or mantelpiece to introduce texture, warmth, and historical narrative into a contemporary space.

Preserve the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations, applying occasional neutral beeswax or mineral oil only if the timber appears dry.
