Victorian Pocket Travel Thermometer by B. Waldstein of Venice

19th century
Description

For sale a Victorian pocket travel thermometer by B. Waldstein of Venice.

Comprised of a two-part hinged fruit wood case with clasp lock to the side. The internal face of the thermometer case is nicely engraved for both Fahrenheit and Centigrade scale and the thermometer is encased within an incised groove running through the centre. The lid is further engraved to the maker or retailer, B. Waldstein, Venezia.

Sadly, I can find nothing documented about Waldstein but nevertheless, a nice and unusual example of its type.

Please note that the thermometer is missing one of its brass stays at the top of the scale but the thermometer remains firmly held within the casing.

Circa 1890.
