We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Witch balls originated in 18th-century England and gained popularity during the Victorian era. Suspended in windows, these hollow glass spheres were belief-based talismans intended to ward off evil spirits, bad fortune, and illness.

Potichomania involved decorating the interior of a clear hand-blown glass object using applied pigments, paints, or paper cutouts. This technique created an opaque, patterned finish protected inside the glass wall, mimicking ceramic or porcelain glazes.

Authentic 19th-century examples display evidence of hand-blowing, such as subtle asymmetric shapes, pontil marks near the suspension neck, and natural wear around the hanging fitting. Potichomania examples show age-consistent interior paint craquelure or pigment settled inside the glass.

A Victorian glass witch ball can be hung near a window or light source to catch natural illumination. It serves as a focal accent on a mantlepiece hook, within a glass display cabinet, or amongst a curation of historical glass objects.

Dust the exterior surface gently with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid immersing the item in water or using liquid chemical cleaners, as moisture entering the neck aperture can degrade interior potichomania paint and paper work.
