Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Trench art and prisoner of war craft refer to decorative and functional items created by soldiers, detainees, or civilians during conflict. These objects were crafted from military surplus, salvaged timber, metals, or paper, serving as pastimes, mementos, or trade items during captivity.

Prisoners utilised available or scavenged materials, predominantly softwoods, hard timber, sheet metal, cast alloys, brass, bone, and official paper documents. Items were assembled and embellished using basic hand tools, pocket knives, or improvised engraving instruments.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-carved inscriptions, specific camp dates, military postmarks, or French and German phrases such as Souvenir de Captivite. Age-appropriate patina, uneven tool marks, natural wood shrinkage, and historic ink stamps further indicate period authenticity.

These historical artefacts are suited to display inside glass vitrines, arranged on dark wood bookshelves, or styled within study cabinets. Combining carved timber, patinated metal, and framed ephemera creates an engaging historical focal point.

Paper documents should be stored in acid-free sleeves away from direct light and humidity to prevent discolouration. Timber and metal objects require gentle dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes or liquid cleaners.
