Welsh Sampler From Pwllheli, Dated 1859

Worked in a variety of coloured wools by Catherine Roberts of Bryn Gwydd Farm, Edern, Pwllheli, in 1859, this large sampler is scattered with a group of buildings including a church with a spire, a depiction of the Tower of Babylon and a charming two storey, red house above a paddock with sheep and two human figures.
 
Also, assorted birds, a rabbit and flowers, all enclosed within a double sided meandering floral border.
 
Initialed CR, aged 13, and dated 1859.
