Late 19th Century Marmo Rosso Grand Tour desk model of the Egyptian Sarcophagus discovered in the Baths of Agrippa on the Campo Marzio in Rome illustrated by Giovanni Battista Piranesi in 1756 and later used as a sepulchre for Pope Clement XII in the Archbasilica of St John Lateran. This sarcophagus inspired many slightly adapted grand tour copies throughout the 18th and 19th century. This fine example features carved medusa masks to ends and carved urns in oval niches between lion paw feet. Rare Grand Tour item.
