Description

For your consideration is this very attractive and totally original 1930's Art deco ladies powder/ trinket box. Made from porcelain with a white pearled finish and gold tone gilding to the edges. The top half of the container is in the form of a 1930's flapper girl with her black bob haircut and cherry red lipstick and black eyeliner she's been very skillfully painted. Her bodice has faded and would of once been green which you can still see faint hints of, the reality is this doesn't detract at all in fact we think it looks rather charming. She has moulded numbers underneath her skirt and is most likely German in origin. She's free from any damage, there are no chips or cracks. This is a lovely piece either for the collector or for someone with discerning taste with multiple applications aside from it's original intent. FREE UK MAINLAND DELIVERY

Date of Manufacture

Art Deco World has dated this Art Deco Powder Box to the 1930s.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco powder boxes emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, reflecting the modernist aesthetics, glamour, and changing social habits of the interwar period, particularly the rise of modern cosmetics and vanity culture.

These pieces were predominantly manufactured from glazed porcelain, fine ceramics, and sometimes metals or glass, often featuring hand-painted enamel details and gilded highlights.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining the maker marks, the type of porcelain paste, hand-painted brushwork consistency, glaze characteristics, and the natural wear patterns consistent with age.

This type of item can be displayed on a dressing table, a bathroom counter, or a mantelpiece as a decorative accent piece that adds historical texture and vintage character to modern spaces.

Antique porcelain should be cleaned gently using a soft, dry cloth or a slightly damp sponge with mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or abrasive scrubbers to protect the delicate glaze and gilding.
