FAQs

These historical styles are characterised by classical proportions, turned pedestals, and the use of dense imported hardwoods like mahogany, often incorporating extension mechanisms to accommodate large gatherings.

Tables from this era were constructed primarily from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary woods, joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and frequently fitted with brass castors.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, patination on the wood surface, and the presence of period-appropriate brass hardware and mechanical runner systems.

Pair the dark wood finish with modern minimalist seating and neutral textiles to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Maintain the finish by avoiding direct sunlight, using beeswax polish instead of modern silicone sprays, and keeping the room at a stable humidity to prevent wood splitting.
