Unusual, large pair of antique carved white wood treen sugar tongs, Caernarfonshire North Wales
Inlaid with tinsel edged glass panels, both hand inscribed Miss Williams August 1891
Pierced with hearts, chip carved edges and steam bent spring hinge.
Retaining the restricting shaft with sliding captive ball.
Made and given as thank you gifts from the striking miners to people who supported their strikes by donating money, part of the Welsh love spoon folk art tradition.
Unusual to find two identical examples, perhaps for the Williams sisters.
Guaranteed genuine and of that date.
Length 6,1/2'' or 165nn, gross weight 36 grams.
In very good sound condition, tiny repairs to rim chips on the spoon tips of one, no other damage or repair, noting aging to the glass panel decoration.
