Antique Turkish 'Siirt' Blanket (battaniye).
Circa 1910.
These blankets are made in the town of Siirt, in Turkey. They are a local tradition, woven on simple looms using Mohair wool from the local Angora goats. After weaving the face of the blanket is brushed with a steel comb to produce a very soft long pile.

A superb old example with a very interesting medallion design and side design.
Woven in four narrow strips joined together
Very thick heavy pile, the thickest I have ever seen
Excellent condition.
Hand washed and ready for use or display
