Simons Bro & Co Philadelphia Gold Walking Stick Cane American

19th century
Description

Smart American walking cane by Simons, Brothers & Co. Philadelphia, circa 1890

The top marked with Simons trade mark S in a shield (double stamped) and number 2 ( no trefoil mark to indicate rolled gold)

In my opinion the top is solid gold, but may be heavy rolled gold.

The crown top chased and engraved with scrolls and florals,

The hard, dense, rigid shaft with fabulous mottled brown/black cross grain effect, probably ebonized maple or hickory

Diameter of handle 13/16" or 21mm

Diameter of shaft 5/8" or 15mm

Length 33,3/4" or 857mm, weight 180 grams.

All in excellent sound condition, light marks throughout from age and use, the top showing small marks from the rim and side seam construction.
