Pair of Georgian Oak Corinthian Columns

18th century
Sold by Culvertons
Description

This impressive pair of Georgian oak Corinthian columns more than likely supported a portico or stood either side of a doorway in the 18th Century. This idea, of possibly being situated close to a wall or structure, would explain why the finely carved detailing is limited to three sides of the gilded capitals and peters out towards the reverse of the columns. The columns and capitals have been made from solid oak and could support a substantial weight. As you would expect, there are signs of previous restoration - we would be happy to undertake any conservation work required under the direction of their future owner. The measurements for these slightly tapering columns (not including carved capitals) diameter of base - approx. 25.5 cm / diameter of top 19 cm / height - 1.83 metres. The measurements for their carved capitals - widest point 46 cm / height 28 cm. Overall height (Inc. Capitals) 2.11 metres.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
