George III Mahogany Piecrust Tripod Table in the Manner of Chippendale

Description

An exceptional George III mahogany piecrust tripod table / supper table; in the manner of Chippendale; very well drawn with great presence. The large, well figured top in one piece of mahogany having a finely carved piecrust edge with an unusual carved moulding to the underside, designed to give the unusually thick top more of an elegant slender appearance. The tilting top with original brass catch and birdcage incorporating turned baluster columns; the birdcage allowing the top to rotate. Raised on a well turned baluster column having wrytham carving and raised on well drawn cabriole legs carved to the knee with shells and hare bells terminating in large ball and claw feet.

English circa 1760

Very good condition, have a lovely colour and patination.
