FAQs

Ceramic bin labels were widely used in 19th-century British wine cellars and merchant stores to identify and organise vintages stored in stone bins or wooden racks.

They were typically fashioned from glazed earthenware or fine porcelain, featuring hand-applied transfer-printed lettering in dark enamel, which was then kiln-fired for durability.

Authentic pieces often exhibit fine crazing in the glaze, minor kiln flaws, period-appropriate serif typography, and natural age-related discoloration on the unglazed or porous areas.

These small collectables can be displayed on small ledges, in shadow boxes, or integrated into kitchen and bar shelving as subtle historical accents.

Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap if necessary, avoiding harsh abrasives or soaking, which can damage the aged glaze and transfer-printed text.
