Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A spider leg table is an 18th-century style of light drop-leaf table characterised by slender, turned legs connected by delicate stretchers. Emerging during the Georgian era, these portable tables featured gateleg supports designed to fold flat when not in use.

Traditionally crafted during the 18th and 19th centuries, spider leg tables were predominantly made from solid mahogany or walnut due to the timbers strength and fine grain. Construction relied on hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, slender turned legs, and brass hinges securing the drop-leaf flaps.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-sawn underside marks, original iron or brass rule-joint hinges, and subtle age-related wear to the legs and stretchers. The proportion of the slender turned legs and natural patination on mahogany surfaces also indicate genuine antiquity.

These versatile tables function exceptionally well as sofa end tables, nightstands, or compact side tables in modern spaces. Folding one or both flaps allows the piece to fit neatly against a wall or beside modern seating, bridging traditional craftsmanship with streamlined decor.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, warping, or fading of the mahogany finish. Dust regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the direction of the wood grain.
