Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pyrography, or pokerwork, gained immense popularity during the late nineteenth century as both a commercial production method and a decorative craft. Crafters used heated metal implements to burn intricate graphic designs, portraits, and motifs onto turned wooden objects such as trays, platters, and wall plaques.

Craftsmen primarily utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, sycamore, and walnut. These woods provided a smooth, stable surface suitable for precision woodturning on a lathe as well as detailed heat-branding or pyrography embellishment.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display natural age-related wear, light surface crazing in the finish, and subtle variations in line depth from manual iron application. Look for turned rims with hand-lathe markings on the reverse and genuine patination across the wood grain.

A decorative wooden tray can be displayed on a picture easel upon a console table, integrated into a gallery wall, or hung as a focal piece in a hallway or study. Its warm timber hues pair effectively with neutral plaster walls, dark paint palettes, or brass accessories.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. To preserve the finish and prevent timber drying or cracking, apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually and keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
