Large Pair Odeon Style Art Deco Oak & Leaded Glass Screens

1920 - 1940
Description

This unusual LARGE PAIR OF ODEON STYLE ART DECO OAK & LEADED GLASS SCREENS date from circa 1930.

To give some idea of scale I have photographed them with a standard dining chair between. Various panels of decorative, clear glass have been used to form a pattern within a sturdy, golden oak frame.

The SCREENS are raised on castors to enable ease of movement.

Ideal for use in a Restaurant, Cafe, Hotel, Office or Home.

The condition is good. The two SETS of CASTORS are different, one being slightly larger, resulting in a difference of half an inch in the height of the SCREENS.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Odeon style emerged in the 1930s, inspired by grand cinema architecture. It is characterised by streamlined geometric shapes, stepped outlines, and bold symmetrical patterns that reflect the modernist movement of the period.

Screens from this era typically feature solid timber frames, such as oak or walnut, holding glass panes joined with lead cames. The glass often incorporates various textures, including cathedral, reeded, and hammered finishes, to diffuse light.

Authentic pieces display period-specific geometric patterns, hand-soldered lead joinery, and timber framing with stepped or angular moulding. Natural age marks on the wood finish and mild oxidisation on the leadwork also indicate period origin.

Glazed screens serve as architectural room dividers that partition open-plan spaces without blocking natural light. They can be positioned to delineate dining areas, create quiet reading nooks, or stand as sculptural backdrops near light sources.

Timber frames should be dusted regularly and maintained with a quality beeswax polish. The glass panels can be cleaned using a mild glass cleaner applied with a microfibre cloth, taking care not to push heavily against the flexible lead cames.
