A William IV / early Victorian terrestrial table globe London, Newton & Son, 1831-46

The 9” or 23cm globe laid with twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes , maker inscribed

The plaster core globe with iron axis pins mounted in a cast iron, graduated full meridian frame, on a painted iron pillar and wooden concave sided triform base on turned wooden bun feet.

All in good, sound, presentable, un restored, original condition.

Shallow areas of varnish loss, abrasions, scratches, stains, surface hairlines between the gores and with small cracks near the South Pole.

Dating the globe;

Tasmania labelled Van Dieman’s Land (pre 1846)

showing discovery of Endrby’s Land in Antarctic, (post 1831-33).
