Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A military clinometer compendium is a dual-function field instrument designed for surveying and navigation. It typically combines a prismatic compass for determining bearings with a clinometer for measuring angles of elevation or slope.

19th-century instruments were predominantly crafted from solid brass due to its non-magnetic properties, durability, and resistance to corrosion. Cases were frequently constructed from stiffened leather lined with velvet, felt, or chamois.

Authentic pieces feature crisp maker engravings, such as maker names or patent stamps, alongside hand-assembled brass fittings. Natural patination on the brass casing and aged leather carry wear patterns consistent with historical field use.

Smaller scientific instruments display effectively on stacked leather books within a bookcase, placed inside a glass cloche, or set on a dark wood desk alongside historical maps and writing accoutrements.

Keep brass instruments in a dry environment with stable humidity to prevent corrosion and damp damage to optics or leather cases. Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip original surface patination.
