Culvertons has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Carved from oak in France in the late 19th Century and now sensitively restored it makes an attractive focal point for a room interior. The original old French inscription 'Ne L'est Pas Qui Veut' that spans the base roughly translates 'Dont let he who wants' (our thanks go out to the quintessential beret wearing passing Frenchman who helped).
