A charming Meiji period boxwood netsuke depicting rats chewing on millet by renowned Masanao .

Another slightly unusual subject for Masanao and much rarer than his typical curled rats type , which are reasonably common .

This unusual subject is carved in a most sentimental way as rats are revered in Japan as omens of good luck .

High quality , good colour and perfect condition.

Signed on a pad.
