As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this lovely little Japanese Meiji period 1868-1912 carved wooden Netsuke of a Shi - Shi dog resting upon a ball , this very well and powerfully carved netsuke depicts a seated Shi - Shi ( Dog of Foo ) tightly clutching a ball through which the Himotoshi is formed, his left rear paw raised as if to scratch under his chin, his gaping jaw houses a moving ball whilst his menacing black eyes appear formed from Horn, the Netsuke has a lovely tactile feel and a good patination particularly to the high spots, a nice addition to your Netsuke or Japanese works of art collection.
