This Arts and Crafts compote dates from 1920 and takes the form of an earthenware footed bowl on a flared pedestal stem with a circular footed base. The piece has a glossy glaze in navy blue and terracotta with a tubelined pomegranate motif showing red fruit, green leaves, and dark berries both inside the bowl and around the exterior. The visible details include smooth turned contours on the stem and raised outlines forming the fruit decoration. Dimensions are 10.2 cm high, 14 cm wide, and 10.2 cm deep. It sits well on a sideboard top in an English country house interior to display small decorative items.

Moorcroft Pomegranate pottery is a recognized decorative pattern designed by William Moorcroft in the early 20th century, characterised by tubelined fruit motifs set against deep blue or ochre lead glazes.

These vessels were formed from earthenware, decorated using the slip-trailing or tubelining technique to create raised outlines, hand-painted with ceramic oxides, and finished with a high-gloss clear glaze.

Authentic items feature impressed factory stamps on the underside, such as Moorcroft and Burslem, along with hand-painted full or monogrammed signatures of William or Walter Moorcroft and impressed shape numbers.

A decorative compote acts as a focal point when placed on a sideboard, console table, or dining table centre, where its rich blue and terracotta tones complement dark timber or modern neutral schemes.

Dust gently with a dry microfiber cloth or wash carefully by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding complete submersion, dishwashers, and harsh chemicals that can cause glaze crazing.
