Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Reverse-painted glass signs, frequently incorporating gold leaf gilding, gained widespread commercial popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Retailers utilised them inside shop fronts and window displays due to their high visibility, decorative appeal, and durable surface.

These pieces were crafted by applying real gold leaf, enamel paints, and mirrored backings directly onto the rear face of clear glass. Once completed, the decorated glass panel was mounted into a protective timber frame to prevent moisture damage and wear.

Authentic period signs exhibit hand-applied typography, minor silvering or paint loss along the margins, and original timber backing panels. Modern reproductions typically lack real leaf gilding, displaying uniform digital prints rather than hand-painted detailing.

A large horizontal trade sign serves as a statement piece when mounted above a dining room sideboard, placed along a hallway wall, or incorporated into a home office gallery wall to add industrial historic character.

Clean only the front glass surface using a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth without liquid glass cleaner. Prevent any moisture or chemical solutions from reaching the reverse-painted side or seeping behind the timber frame to preserve the gilding.
